Relationships aren’t always perfect because they are formed by two imperfect people each with his or her own interests, strengths, weaknesses, complexities, and fears.
But while there are two people in a relationship, there are actually three persons – YOU, HIM/HER, and the relationship.
The ‘relationship’ is a person that is independent from both of you – it has its own needs, its own wants and its own fears. Give it what it needs, it strengthens. Do not feed it, it weakens.
So when a relationship ends, its not usually because you both decided to call it quits. It isn’t because of you or him/her. Most of the time, it’s because both of you decided that your individual interests are far higher, your needs more important, than the needs of the relationship.
So in the end, where there was once three, there now only lies two.
