This is actually good reasoning. Thomas Paine, who wrote this (“The Age of Reason”) more than 300 years ago is spot-on. Is it still justice if we prosecute the innocent in place of the guilty if he offers himself? Isn’t that flawed, from a moral justice perspective? And yet isn’t that the very foundation of the idea of redemption?
